Artist's Statement
My recent work has focused on rural landscape. I have been drawn to painting country roads,
and how these roads disappear in the distance. The inspiration for these paintings has
been summers spent in northern Wisconsin. My work also examines the forms in nature along
the roadway, milkweed, tiger lillies and repetition of rows of corn. I find the patterns
these plants make so pleasing, and I seem to repeat these scenes and forms in various paintings.
The most recent works were created last summer in the south of France. These works are done in gouache and dried quickly as I painted in the warm sun near Aix-en-Provence. The daily outdoor market was a source of inspiration with color and produce that was as good to paint as it was to eat.
